Flat feet are not only about the feet

Ekaterina Gashenko · osteopath, P-DTR, kinesiologist

Flattening of the foot arches threatens posture and can lead to scoliosis. The load shifts to the knees, hips and spine, shock absorption suffers — hence joint wear and degeneration.

For a while the body compensates for the wrong foundation, but the reserve runs out: back and neck pain, headaches, dizziness, joint discomfort and a changed gait appear. Flat feet are also one of the causes of swelling and varicose veins — the calf venous pump works worse.

The main idea: a fallen arch is not a local problem (except after trauma), but a link in the compensation chain of the whole body. Often the cause lies in the skull, spine or internal organs. So I look for the root cause instead of just adjusting the foot.

The work is gentle and painless — on the feet, leg joints and spine: releasing spasms, normalising blood flow and helping the body distribute the load correctly.
